Michael Fugman, CA Business Development
Michael brings over 30 years of comprehensive tax, entrepreneurial and volunteer leadership experience to his business development role at PearTree. He works closely with Western-based current and prospective donor clients, their advisors and their charitable causes. As a Chartered Accountant with both Deloitte and E&Y, Michael focused on small business and IT consulting. For 25 years, within his own family apparel business, Michael served as President where he directed over 100 staff and managed up to $100 million in sales annually. Most recently, he turned his expertise to a start-up, building a 40 person team and overseeing operations, finance, production and development – resulting in 500% growth under his management. He brings a deep understanding of the charitable sector, having extensive experience as a volunteer director. As Chairman of the Federation of Vancouver (2009-2011), under his leadership the annual campaign grew significantly. He also served as President of the Richmond Golf & Country Club (1997-1999) during which time the club completed a major capital renovation. Michael continues to be involved as a Governor with both organizations.
As a dedicated philanthropist, he has served on several fundraising committees including the United Way of Greater Vancouver. He is also a director of the Young Presidents Organization of BC.
Michael is an avid golfer and an accomplished cyclist and marathoner, having completed 18 Marathons and Ultra Marathons including the “6 World Marathon Majors”.

Steven Ross Business Development
Steven Ross is well-known in the Canadian life and health insurance industry and financial services industries in Canada. At PearTree, he will work closely with Quebec City and area current and prospective donor clients, their advisors and their charitable causes. Steven has held a variety of senior management positions in major Quebec financial firms. Under his leadership, La Capital Financial Group had the strongest growth of any life and health insurer in Canada, moving from the 23rd to the 9th position in the Canadian market.
Until very recently, he sat on the board of directors of the CLHIA (the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association) and served on several influential industry committees.
A graduate of Duke University in North Carolina, Mr. Ross also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Ottawa.
As someone who believes in giving back to the community, he has worked on several healthcare and environmental organizations’ campaigns and is especially involved in Centraide Québec et Chaudière-Appalaches.

J. Julian Chamberlain (Jiles) Legal Counsel
Jiles serves as a senior legal counsel for the PearTree Group of Companies. In that capacity, Jiles provides legal advice and support for the corporate finance transactions that supply flow through shares to our donation arrangements, and is responsible for other legal, regulatory and compliance aspects of PearTree’s business. With over a decade of legal experience in Canada including in private practice at a major Canadian law firm and as internal counsel for a national financial institution, Jiles specializes in the areas of corporate finance and securities and capital markets. Jiles holds a LL.B. from Queen’s University and a MBA from the University of Western Australia.

Robin Turack Business Development
At PearTree, Robin Turack brings her donor/client centred approach to her focus on developing deep and sustainable client relationships in the GTA and across Canada. Robin works closely with current and prospective donor clients, their charitable causes and their advisors.
Robin has applied her entrepreneurial leadership style at leading Canadian and international institutions and her collaborative approach has resulted in highly successful marketing, sales, philanthropic, media and communications ventures. As a volunteer, a consultant and an executive, Robin brings multiple perspectives and expertise to PearTree.
Originally from Montreal, Robin lives in Toronto and is currently a member of the ROM Ball 2017 celebrating Canada’s 150th Fundraising & Planning Committee, and since 2003 she has Co-Chaired Canadian Hadassah Wizo At Our Table. In 2007, Robin created the successful Blue Brain Bracelet Campaign to support The Gerry and Nancy Pencer Brain Trust and The Turack Family Fund for Pediatric Oncology at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Robin is a graduate of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago focusing her executive studies on Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship, Successful Fundraising Strategies, Internet and Social Media Marketing, Crisis Management, and Executive Management Education for Jewish Leaders and she continues to be a member of the Kellogg Jewish Leaders Circle.

Les Ross Business Development
At PearTree, Les Ross brings more than 30 years’ experience in banking and financial markets to his focus on developing deep and sustainable client relationships in the GTA and across Canada. Les works closely with current and prospective donor clients, their charitable causes and their advisors.
With his broad professional background including relationship management roles in international banking, corporate, commercial and real estate lending, private banking and as Managing Director of a leading Canadian derivative/capital markets practice, clients value the experience and expertise Les brings.
Les holds a Commerce degree from Queen’s University and an MBA from York University. As an advocate of lifelong learning, Les is an accredited Personal Financial Planner, a Chartered Investment Manager, a Fellow of both the Canadian Securities Institute and the Institute of Canadian Bankers, and has taken numerous continuing education courses through the Canadian Securities Institute, the Appraisal Institute of Canada and UBC’s Family Enterprise Advisor Program.
Les is a long-time Oakville resident with many years of diverse community involvement. He currently serves as a Board member of Rotary Club of Oakville West.

Stanley Hartt, OC, QC
Stanley Hartt has a wealth of experience as a lawyer, business executive, investment banker and public servant. He has served as Chairman of Citigroup Global Markets Canada Inc. and Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Inc. as well as Macquarie Private Wealth Inc. During his five years in government, Stanley was Deputy Minister of Finance (Canada) and Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office. He is both an Officer of the Order of Canada and a Queen’s Counsel.
During his extensive career, he has developed a stellar track record of dealing with business leaders as well as government departments and agencies which makes him one of the country’s pre-eminent contributors in both the public and private sectors at the highest levels. He has decades of experience with two of Canada’s most prominent national law firms and has served as Chairman, President and CEO of Campeau Corporation, where he successfully led one of the most complex corporate restructurings in Canadian history.
Stanley’s knowledge of and relationships with institutional, public, private and family office investors will bring added depth and energy to PearTree’s capital raising activities.

Rebecca Schwartz Philanthropic Services & Corporate Communications
Rebecca aligns the corporate and charitable sectors through her passion and experience working with non profits. With a background in education, she has worked and volunteered in the non profit sector for over a decade in fundraising, writing, event planning, and marking and communications.
In her most recent role prior to joining PearTree, Rebecca worked in international relations and fundraising at Yad Vashem – The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, in Jerusalem, Israel.
At PearTree she focuses on charity outreach, sponsorship, marketing, and digital communications. Rebecca is responsible for social media and in shaping and implementing PearTree’s digital identity and strategy. She brings her interpersonal skills and passion for the digital world to give PearTree a voice in the field of charity flow through.
Rebecca is an active member of AFP and sits on the 2017 Fundraising Day Management Committee.
Rebecca graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Religious Studies from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Education from Western University.

Mark Wilder Principal, NDB Group Syndication
Mark founded NDB Group Syndications Inc. in 1994. From 1994 to present, Mark has specialized in low risk tax effective strategies targeted to high income individuals and private operating and holding companies. Mark graduated Osgoode Hall Law School in 1989. He then practiced in the tax group at Fasken Campbell Godfrey for 3 years.
Ginny Hasselfield Relationship Management, BC
Ginny (Virginia) Hasselfield has extensive experience in fundraising, business development and government relations. Originally based in Manitoba, from 1986-1996, she pioneered training in cross-cultural issues most notably in the areas of diversity and employment equity through her consulting firm, Cross Cultural Consulting Inc. Ginny liaised with major banks, oil companies, other large Canadian corporations and the public sector, teaching CEO’s and senior management in public service across the country about managing change in a multiethnic environment including aboriginal rights, treaties, land claims, employment equity and the like.
In 1998, she relocated to British Columbia (BC) continuing as a consultant. In 2004, and for over a decade, Ginny was a successful major gift fundraiser at Simon Fraser University and worked with the President’s Office and University Advancement. Ms. Hasselfield has a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Certificate in Education from University of Manitoba. She is a winner of the Manitoba YWCA Women of Distinction Award (1996). She has served as a Director and Chair of the Governance Committee of the Fraser Port Authority and currently Chairs the Governance Committee of the South Coast British Columbia Transit Police Board. Ginny is a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade and sits on the Advisory Council to the Surrey Foundation. Her involvement throughout the Vancouver community is an asset in her role at PearTree responsible for Relationship Management in BC.

Helen Tyros Relationship Management, Quebec
Helen brings over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry to her role at PearTree – Relationship Management for Quebec. Previously, she held senior executive roles at TD Canada Trust and Bank of Montreal leading teams in retail, sales, human resources and financial planning. She has a solid track record in achieving top quartile business results, building high performing teams and fostering a culture where the customer comes first.
Helen has been a Director of the Montreal Board of Trade, Centraide, and Hellenic Board of Trade serving as president. Presently she is VP of the executive committee of the Shield of Athena Family Services actively supporting their second stage shelter project. She is also a member of the AFP. In the past she participated in the Prime Minister Task Force for Women and the Roundtable Conference for Business Networking Ministry Foreign Affairs as well as having led fundraising initiatives in the Greek community (Demosthene Schools), West Island Community Shares and the Leonardo Davinci Center.
Helen holds a bachelor degree in business (McGill University). She has also completed two executive programs with Rotman and Ivey Schools of business in Toronto.

Michel is a Principal at NDB Group Syndication, our Independent Agent. Michel has over 25 years of Investment Banking and Debt Capital Markets experience in Canada and London, England. He has worked in fixed income sales, derivatives sales and corporate finance for small, medium and large cap clients. His debt capital markets experience includes lead, joint or co lead managing over $40 billion of debt issuance in domestic, foreign and global markets.
Michel was most recently Managing Director at National Bank Financial in Toronto. He has also worked with at Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and SG Warburg & Co Ltd. He has a B.Comm from McGill University.
Marianne Jenkevice Client Support & Operations
At PearTree, Marianne is responsible for all aspects of client support including compliance, market research, competitive analysis and opportunity identification in support of business development and transactional back office support for post sales activities. Her career in finance has included all aspects of the trade flow process, from sales and trading to settlements and compliance. Her extensive experience with both institutional and retail clients service, as well as supporting management teams make her a great asset to the PearTree team. Marianne has worked with leading institutions such as J. P. Morgan Securities Canada, a private Swiss bank, Montreal Trust and Natcan Investment Management. Marianne has a B.A. with a major in Finance from Concordia University and she is fluent in both written and spoken French and English.

Prior to joining PearTree in 2010, Guy was a registered representative for a boutique investment services firm specializing in private equity opportunities for high net worth clients. Guy brings his level of specialized client support to PearTree where he acts as liaison, ensuring the timely, efficient and seamless coordination of PearTree’s service between clients and their recipient charities. Understanding that each client’s situation is unique, Guy nurtures close relationships with many of our clients’ advisors in addressing the tax implications of PearTree’s gifting arrangements, and bases his success on consistent, reliable and customized client support. Guy received his bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Toronto.

Albert Labelle Associé/Principal
At PearTree, Albert is focused on supporting the company’s long term growth objectives by developing deep and sustainable client relationships in Quebec and across Canada. Albert works closely with current and prospective donor clients, their charitable causes and their advisors. He is a Director of the Quebec chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), is serving a 2 year term as board member of the Montfort Hospital Foundation in Ottawa, and is actively involved in fundraising efforts with various charities.
Prior to joining PearTree, Albert has held senior executive management roles with corporations such as American Express, AVCO Financial Services, Canada Trust, Assante and CST Consultants. He has provided leadership to hundreds of employees and, together, achieved superior results. Lisa G. Davis L.L.B., ICD.D Legal & Corporate Affairs
Lisa acts as PearTree’s internal counsel. In that capacity, Lisa oversees the corporate finance transactions that supply flow through shares to our donation arrangements, and is responsible for all other legal and regulatory aspects of the firm’s business. Lisa also has day to day responsibility for the operational management of PearTree’s business.
Prior to joining PearTree, Lisa was General Counsel for a specialized investment fund business. While in private practice, Lisa specialized in corporate and securities law with Heenan Blaikie LLP and Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP where she was admitted to partnership in 1992. Lisa also gained an in depth knowledge of securities regulation on secondment to the Ontario Securities Commission. A graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, Lisa was called to the Bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1986. She has earned her ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and is a member of the Association de L’Éxploration Minière du Quebec, Women in Mining and Women in Capital Markets.

Marilyn brings over 17 years of significant major gift fundraising success to her business development role at PearTree. She is a skilled professional with capital campaign experience within organizations across Canada, including CAMH, United Way of Greater Victoria & Greater Toronto, Kids Help Phone, the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, University of Calgary, Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH), and the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD). Marilyn has worked with executive-level volunteer leadership and major donors throughout her career, including at PearTree, where she manages the charity outreach, marketing and government relations efforts of the firm. Marilyn’s experience, combined with her strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively accomplish objectives have resulted in important fundraising accomplishments that make a difference in the success of leading institutions and organizations. Ron Bernbaum, L.L.B. Founder
With an extensive background in law, tax and finance, Ron has blended his proven talent for recognizing, structuring and implementing innovative, yet conservative, financing structures with a sincere, lifelong dedication to supporting philanthropic causes. Amongst his accomplishments, Ron has structured and created an investment fund listed with the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, a REIT listed on the American Stock Exchange, and a family of tax-efficient mutual funds for investment dealers. As early as 2004, Ron presented the use of flow through shares to philanthropists and charities as a way to reduce the after-tax cost of giving. Ron has the ability to productize tax-efficient financial products that meet both the policy and technical requirements of the tax legislation and he was the driving force in the first flow through donation transactions, the first CRA ruling and the first Revenu Quebec ruling.

Renee Bleeman Strategic Planning
For over 20 years, Renee has held numerous leadership roles in philanthropy including several board directorships. Through both her career in rehabilitative therapy – specializing in amputees and the elderly at leading institutions including West Park Hospital and Baycrest – along with her non-profit volunteer involvement, Renee has experienced the fund raising challenges faced by charity. Most recently, Renee joined as a Director of the Toronto Board of The Canadian Society for the Weizmann Institute of Science, known as Weizmann Canada.
